- Hero MotoCorp to restart manufacturing plants from today
- Dealerships are also expected to reopen gradually
- All operations were suspended to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus
Hero MotoCorp is all set to restart operations including production and retail starting today, 4 May 2020. The company had suspended all of its manufacturing facilities and dealerships across India from 22 March owing to the mandatory lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
After over a month of hiatus, Hero MotoCorp will reopen its manufacturing plants today while production will commence from Wednesday, 6 May. The facilities which have acquired the permission to reopen include those in Gurugram and Dharuhera (both in Haryana), Haridwar (Uttarakhand), the Global Parts Centre (GPC) at Neemrana (Rajasthan) and the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) which is Hero’s R&D facility. Besides the production division, the brand’s dealerships and workshops might also open gradually in several regions, depending on the relaxations granted by the government.
Employees of Hero’s corporate offices and other facilities will be limited to only the essential staff. For whom it is feasible to continue working from home have been asked to do so until further notice. All the employees who will be reporting at the workplaces now have been given vital precautionary guidelines such as maintaining social distancing and using face masks, face shields and sanitisers. The dealers have also received a restart manual and are allowed to open shops only after obtaining permissions from the local authorities.
Due to the nation-wide lockdown, Hero MotoCorp couldn’t manufacture and dispatch any of its two-wheelers in India last month. In the meantime, the company supported the government in several relief activities such as distributing meals, face masks and sanitizers while it also contributed Rs 50 crore to the PM-Cares fund.
