Hero MotoCorp is planning to add three completely new models to its portfolio, early next year. While two of these three new products will be scooters, the third will be a motorcycle. Mr. Pawan Munjal, vice chairman and MD of Hero MotoCorp, confirmed this while speaking at the SIAM convention in Delhi, last week.
"During the early part of next year we will start rolling out new scooters. Two new scooters and one motorcycle model are on the anvil right now," Mr. Munjal said.
For the festive season, Hero MotoCorp will launch as many as 12 new models, all of which would be upgraded versions of its current models. "These 12 variants have improved features including engines. All of them would be introduced during the festive season. I am bullish about the festival season. Sentiments have improved and the market will improve further. We expect to do better than the last year,” Mr. Munjal added.
The construction of Hero MotoCorp’s Gujarat plant is expected to start soon and will have an installed capacity of 18 lakh units per annum. The plans for the proposed plant in South India are also being finalised. The Delhi-based manufacturer currently has an annual production capacity of 76.5 lakh units, and its plants are being stretched to their maximum capacity to meet the demand during the festive season.
