Hero MotoCorp will start selling its motorcycles and scooters in United States and Canada from 2014. The announcement was made during the unveiling of the EBR 1190RX at the 2013 American International Motorcycle Expo.
The Hero products will be sold through Erik Buell Racing dealerships which are currently in small numbers. But there might be a possibility of Hero helping EBR in setting up more EBR dealerships across the US. The company will sell the Karizma ZMR, Hunk, HF-Deluxe and the Pleasure scooter in the American market.
The strategic alliance between the two companies is surely going to help them. Hero MotoCorp invested USD 25 million by acquiring 49.2 per cent of the company that directly helped the latter develop new products including the 1190RX. On the other hand, EBR is helping the Gurgaon-based manufacturer with new technology that will be used in their upcoming products.
“I am delighted to announce today that EBR will be distributing Hero motorcycles to the United States and Canada on an exclusive basis starting summer of 2014. We recently had a great event in India to celebrate our 50 millionth motorcycle and Erik was there with me to enjoy that event, both as a friend and as the huge fan of motorcycling that he is. Both EBR and Hero believe that the combination of the world’s leading manufacturer of two wheelers and one of the world’s leading innovators is a very powerful team and we are excited about the possibilities," said Pawan Munjal, CEO and managing director, Hero MotoCorp.
