Hero MotoCorp always likes to be in discrete mode when it comes to the Auto Expo. While it decided to reveal five new products just before the 2014 Auto Expo, it later shocked everyone by unveiling more products at the biennial event.
However, this time, we know what they are up to, at least with their one product – the Dare. First unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Dare 125 was the answer to the Honda’s Activa 125, but in a more stylish fashion. We’ve learned from our sources that the Gurgaon-based manufacturer will showcase the production version of the Dare at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo.
As per our source, Hero wants to enter the growing 125cc segment as early as possible. Currently, the company has scooters only in the 110cc segment. The Dare will be the first 125cc scooter for Hero MotoCorp in this segment and later we’ll see more scooters being launched with the same platform.
As far as the production version of the Dare 125 is concerned, the design will be toned down to meet the cost. While the overall design cues will remain the same, Hero’s engineers have been asked to do a better job but within the predicted cost. We’re expecting the stunning alloy wheels to make way for a cost effective one. In terms of features, the Dare will be loaded with an attractive instrument cluster , phone charging point, side-stand indicator and under-seat lamp. In terms of mechanicals, the Hero Dare is powered by a 124.6cc air-cooled engine that produces 9.38bhp at 7500rpm and 9.8Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Hero MotoCorp plans to launch the Dare by April 2016. Once launched, it’ll compete with the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Swish and the soon-to-be launched Mahindra Gusto 125.
