Hero MotoCorp unveiled their new scooter, the Zir at the recently concluded Auto Expo. The fit and finish of the two-wheeler might give you a feeling that the scooter has been developed for the export market, but the company will be developing two versions one for each, the Indian car market and the European market.
The Zir has a huge presence, making it one of the biggest scooters in terms of body proportions. It gets dual projector head lamps, DRLs, LED turn indicators, a windscreen, digital analog console and integrated grab rails. It also features a smart phone integration system that communicates with EFI for complete details of the engine and riding information. The scooter’s European design should appeal to the youngsters in India.
The Zir scooter is powered by a 150cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that produces 14bhp at 8,500 rpm and a torque of 12.7Nm at 7,000rpm. It gets an integrated hydraulic braking system and has 110/90 and 130/70 13 tyres at the front and rear respectively. The kerb weight of the scooter is 139kg.
We can expect Hero MotoCorp to launch this scooter in the first half of 2015-2016. Once launched, the Zir might become the most expensive scooter in India.
