Hero MotoCorp has given impetus to its Greenovation strategy by unveiling the Duet E at the 2016 Auto Expo. While it is still in an early concept phase, the Duet E represents Hero MotoCorp's commitment towards eco-friendly mobility solutions.
What's new?
The Duet E might look like a normal Duet scooter at first glance, though the green decals and the 'E' badging hint at its green character. Propelling the Duet E is a 5kW electric motor which derives power from a long range lithium ion battery. It also gets an anti-theft mechanism and smartphone connectivity options to help monitor the status of the scooter.
India relevance?
While the Indian market does have a few electric scooters, it would be fair to say that this market space is still in a nascent stage. However, given the way technology and the customer mindset is evolving, we can expect such green scooters to occupy an important position in the auto industry.
Launch plans?
While it might look ready to hit the roads, the Duet E is still an early prototype. Hero MotoCorp says that electric scooters require a lot of advancements in terms of infrastructure to make them a viable mode of transport. Unfortunately, this cannot be achieved without support from the government. Hero MotoCorp, as of now, has plans to launch the Duet E and it might be two years before we see one roll out of the production lines.
