The Hero Splendor has had a long and distinguished lead on the sales charts. But, Honda’s Activa has been closing in and is now right on its tail. The Splendor is not only the undisputed leader in terms of sales in India, it is the world’s highest selling motorcycle. The Activa on the other hand, has a growth percentage much higher than that of the Splendor.
Hero has consistently seen growth at double digits. Every 30 seconds, someone in India buys Hero Honda's top –selling motorcycle – Splendor. But this financial year we saw a decline in the sales for this famous motorcycle. In 2016, Splendor sold 2,486,065 units, which is a 1.2 per cent lower than 2,517,189 units sold in 2015.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Activa's sales grew over 13 per cent to 2,466,350, up from 2,178,227 in 2015, bringing down the distance to less than 20,000 units. Which means, if the Activa continues gaining on these figures it could be the leader in the 2017 financial year.
Nonetheless, both these two wheelers have an enormous lead over the motorcycle in third place – Hero HF Deluxe, which comes in at 1,148,254 units.
