Hero Splendor has shot past the Honda Activa to become the country’s highest selling two-wheeler. Hero MotoCorp ended Activa’s nine month streak by selling 2.54 lakh units of the Splendor, which is 4,132 units more than what Honda had managed in October 2016.
The festive season saw Hero roll out special finance scheme with a low rate of interest. And going by the numbers this scheme seems to have been received well by customers. In the last month, the Hero Splendor experienced an eight per cent jump in sales over October 2015. Honda Activa hasn’t been far behind either, and sales jumped six per cent to 2.5 lakh units.
It has been five years since Hero’s split with its joint venture partner, and contrary to what most of its critics predicted, it has retained its top position in the Indian two-wheeler market. However when it came to individual sales, the Honda Activa has been playing spoilsport for the Gurgaon-based manufacturer. Now though, the launch of Splendor iSmart 110 and the rising popularity of the Splendor Plus have turned the tables back in Hero’s favour. However, it will be interesting to see for how long Hero will be able to carry this momentum before Honda catches up again.
