The newly launched Hero Splendor iSmart 110 could help Hero take the Splendor brand to the top spot of the sales chart once again. The new Hero motorcycle could overthrow the Honda Activa which has been the undisputable leader since the past few months.
Let’s get to the numbers. Since the past few months the Activa has been witnessing sales figures between 2.25 lakh and around 2.35 lakh. Hero’s Splendor has been coming in second with sales figures between 2 lakh and 2.10 lakh units. Back in April, we had told you how and why Activa surpassed the dominating Splendor. It was also foreseeable because of the higher growth percentage the scooter was enjoying.
Hero’s fall-back plan could be the all-new Splendor iSmart 110. It is the company's first ingeniously developed motorcycle. The bike comes with idle start-stop system (i3s) that helps in saving fuel in stop-go traffic. Powering the Splendor iSmart 110 is a new 110cc engine that produces 9bhp and 9Nm of torque, and is mated to a four-speed gearbox. With a top speed of 87kmph, Hero claims that this engine offers nine per cent more power and 12 per cent higher torque than its older 100cc counterparts and a lot more fuel efficiency.
