- First Indian two-wheeler manufacturer to receive BS-VI certification
- Splendor iSmart is the first BS-VI motorcycle in the country
- Designed and developed entirely in-house by the company
Hero MotoCorp has become the first Indian two-wheeler manufacturer to receive BS-VI certification for a two-wheeler. From the company’s wide product portfolio, the Splendor iSmart has been tested and approved by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) for the Type Approval Certificate compliance.
Hero has designed and developed the BS-VI compliant Splendor iSmart in-house through its Research and Development hub, the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan. For a two-wheeler to be BS-VI compliant, it needs to be equipped with components like fuel-canister, closed-loop catalytic converter, electronic fuel injection system, Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and Lambda (O2) sensor. However, Hero hasn't yet disclosed the details of the motorcycle yet. Furthermore, after the Type Approval Certificate process, the prototype of the motorcycle needs to be tested and finally certified from any of the Government approved test agencies like International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) or the Global Automotive Research Center (GARC). It is only after this certification that a manufacturer can manufacturer the new model.
With the announcement of the BS-VI compliant Splendor iSmart, Hero MotoCorp will be gradually progressing towards having its entire product portfolio becomes BS-VI compliant before the 1 April, 2020 deadline.
