- Hero Splendor iSmart BS-VI engine details leaked through a document
- Will get a higher displacement motor as compared to BS-IV model
- Power output will be relatively lower
Hero MotoCorp had announced in June that its commuter motorcycle, the Splendor iSmart, has been certified as BS VI-compliant, becoming the first Indian two-wheeler to receive the certification. However, the company hasn’t revealed the specifications of the motorcycle yet. Now, ahead of its official launch, a leaked document surfaced on the internet has revealed the engine details of the BS-VI-compliant Splendor iSmart.
Interestingly, owing to the emission norms becoming more stringent, the power output of the motorcycle has reduced despite the increase in displacement as compared to the BS-IV model. The new 113.2cc, air-cooled engine churns out 9bhp of power. This is 0.3bhp less as compared to the output of 9.3bhp from the existing 109.15cc motor. While the latter gets a carbureted set up, the new powerplant will feature fuel-injected technology which aids in reducing emissions and improves fuel efficiency.
Besides the changes in the engine, the document reveals that the Splendor iSmart has also grown in terms of dimensions. While the wheelbase has increased by 25mm to 1,270mm, the length and height have also gone up by 33mm and 55mm to 2,048mm and 1,110mm, respectively. Currently, the Splendor iSmart is available only in drum brake variant but the document mentions a front disc variant as well.
Hero is likely to launch the BS-VI-compliant Splendor iSmart by the end of this year. As for the pricing, considering the changes the motorcycle will receive, it is likely to demand a premium of around Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 over the existing BS-IV model which retails at Rs 57,400 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
