The Hero Splendor iSmart has set a new benchmark by clocking 102.5kmpl in the efficiency test conducted by the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP). This means that the Splendor iSmart is now officially the most fuel-efficient motorcycle sold in India.
The tests were conducted under controlled conditions and were a part of the mandatory emission test that motorcycles sold in India have to undergo. The efficiency values were certified by the iCAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology), which is a division of NATRIP Implementation Society (NATIS).
The Splendor iSmart is built around the same tubular double cradle frame from the standard motorcycle. It is powered by the 100cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which delivers 7.9bhp and 8.04Nm of torque, through a four-speed transmission. However, the Splendor iSmart gets a radical i3S idle stop and start system which conserves fuel by automatically turning off the bike when the engine is idling for more than five seconds.
The Splendor iSmart is available in two versions, with prices starting at Rs 50,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). It competes with other 100cc commuter motorcycles like the Bajaj Discover 100T, Mahindra Centuro and the Honda Dream Yuga.
