- Hero sold 2,67,450 units of Splendor models
- Honda Activa series registered sales of 2,18,734 units
- Both the models recorded a drop in their individual sales
The scuffle to stay on top of the two-wheelers sales chart continues between the Hero Splendor and the Honda Activa. Now that the May sales figures are out, it turns out that the Splendor has outsold the Activa, yet again.
Hero MotoCorp has sold 2,67,450 units of the Splendor series models in the month of May. This includes all the versions of the motorcycle consisting of the Hero Splendor Plus, Splendor Plus i3S, Splendor iSmart 110 and the Super Splendor. On the other hand, Honda 2wheelers India managed to garner 2,18,734 customers for its Activa 5G and the Activa 125 models combined. With this, the Splendor led the sales chart by a margin of 48,716 units over the Activa.
Now, considering the individual sales of the Honda Activa and the Hero Splendor series, both have witnessed a slump in the month of May. While Honda saw a drop of 20 per cent in the year-on-year sales of the Activa, Hero’s Splendor series recorded a decline of 29 per cent. For tackling the curtailing demand from the customer’s side, Hero and Honda both attempted to entice buyers by launching special edition models of their highest-selling products. While Hero launched the 25th Anniversary version of the Splendor Plus, Honda introduced the limited edition Activa 5G, both in the last week of May.
Owing to the increased insurance cost and implementation of new safety norms, which increased the prices of two-wheelers, the overall Indian two-wheeler industry has been facing a fall in demand for a few months. The cumulative sales of two-wheelers in India dropped by 6.73 per cent in May as compared to the corresponding month last year.
