In a bid to update one of its most popular commuters, Hero MotoCorp recently launched the Splendor Plus XTEC in India. The XTEC trim brought in a bevy of features for the Splendor along with a small price bump. But how does the Hero bike fare against its nemesis, the TVS Radeon? Let’s find out.
Design
Both the bikes feature fairly compact and minimalistic bodywork. Utility is the utmost priority for the Splendor Plus XTEC and the Radeon and hence both the bikes get a single-piece seat and a rear luggage mount as well. The Splendor Plus gets a halogen headlight with an LED DRL integrated with the cowl above. Meanwhile, the Radeon too gets a halogen unit with an LED DRL.
Features
On the feature front, the Splendor Plus XTEC tends to offer more on paper. It’s equipped with a USB port and a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. It gives you access to SMS and call alerts. The Radeon on the other hand features a twin analog dial setup with no connectivity features whatsoever.
Engine
Hero has plonked a 97.2cc air-cooled engine in the Splendor Plus XTEC. It makes 7.9bhp and 8.05Nm. Meanwhile, the TVS Radeon draws power from a 109.7cc single air-cooled motor dishing out 8.08bhp and 8.7Nm.
Cycle Parts
Both bikes ride on conventional telescopic forks and dual rear springs. Even the braking hardware is similar for the two – front and rear drum brakes. However, you get the option of purchasing the Radeon with a front disc and rear drum brake setup as well.
Price
The asking price for the Hero Splendor XTEC is set to Rs 73,200 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the TVS Radeon retails at Rs 59,925 (ex-showroom Delhi) onwards.
