Earlier this week, internet chatter suggested that the Hero MotoCorp has silently launched the Splendor Pro Classic in India at Rs 53,900. Now though, the company has officially confirmed that the despatch of Splendor Pro Classic to the dealerships will commence only in the coming few weeks.
The Splendor Pro Classic, as the name suggests will be based on the Hero MotoCorp’s best-selling two-wheeler, the Splendor Pro. It gets a comprehensive set of styling updates including a new handle bar, which has been designed to resemble clip-ons, a classic round headlamp and tail lamp and a cafe racer styled fuel tank. The rear-view mirrors, headlamp ring, front and rear fenders, suspension and the silencer are garnished in chrome.
Mechanically, the Splendor Pro Classic is identical to the host motorcycle. It is powered by the same tried and tested 97.2cc single-cylinder engine which produces 7.7bhp and 8.4Nm of torque through a four-speed gearbox.
The Splendor Pro Classic was first showcased by Hero MotoCorp, earlier this year, at the Delhi Auto Expo and had everyone captivated with its interesting concept. While the idea for this motorcycle was clearly inspired by Royal Enfield’s cafe racer, the steeply priced Continental GT undoubtedly is beyond the reach of a majority of Indian customers. While the Splendor Pro Classic might not succeed in arousing the interest of the enthusiasts, with such a lucrative price tag, Hero MotoCorp has definitely brought this nostalgic and exciting segment within the grasp of the masses.
