Hero MotoCorp continues to dominate the India two-wheeler market as its popular commuter motorcycle, the Splendor, reclaimed the position of the country’s top-selling two-wheeler from the Honda Activa. Since the past two months, the Splendor has been outselling the Activa, and the festive seasons sales are expected to help it retain the position for the third month too.
Hero MotoCorp and Honda have been involved in a face-off ever since the two manufacturers went their separate ways in 2010. On the contrary to what the critics had predicted, Hero MotoCorp, since its split with its long time joint venture partner, has beaten all odds to retain the top position in the Indian market.
Hero sold 2,34,844 units of the Splendor in September, pushing Honda Activa back to the second spot, which sold 2,10,797 units. Both the Activa and the Splendor have been fighting for the first position for quite some time now, while maintaining a comfortable lead over the third motorcycle in the sales charts, the Hero Passion. Bajaj Auto also seems to be having a good run as the Discover moved up to the sixth position, as a result of the addition of two new versions, the Discover 150S and Discover 150F.
