Hero MotoCorp is planning to eventually introduce the i3S technology throughout its commuter range of motorcycles. Speaking at the 2016 Auto Expo, Mr Markus Braunsperger, chief technology officer, Hero MotoCorp, said that this move was a part of the company’s Greenovation product strategy to offer economical and eco-friendly mobility solutions.
The i3S, or integrated start-stop system, is an innovative feature which helps save fuel in city conditions. The i3S automatically cuts power to engine, whenever the gearbox is slotted into neutral for more than a few seconds. This means that whenever you stop at a traffic signal, i3S will turn off the engine for you as soon as you get into neutral. Once the signal turns green, all you need to do is pull the clutch and the engine will start by itself.
The i3S was first introduced in the Splendor iSmart, though this technology will now be offered in the rest of the commuter range of Splendor and Passion models. Hero MotoCorp might launch these models alongside the standard versions, for an extra premium of around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. At the 2016 Auto Expo, Hero unveiled its first ever in house developed motorcycle - the Splendor 110 iSmart. This motorcycle is expected to hit the showrooms in the next couple of months.
