Last year we got you exclusive news of a new scooter called the Duet being developed by Hero MotoCorp. While the company showcased the Dash, Dare and the Zir range of scooters at the 2014 Auto Expo, it chose not to unveil the Duet as it was not ready for the biennial event and the company wanted to keep it under wraps.
The Hero Duet will compete with the market leader, the Activa and with its unisex appeal, it is expected to reach more consumers. The scooter has been built using a new platform and will be powered by an 110cc engine. It’s still not confirmed if this will be a new engine or will be borrowed from the Maestro. Designed to be aesthetically appealing to both genders, the Duet will come with an all-metal body - a feature absent in Maestro and Pleasure.
Hero MotoCorp has changed its strategy to quickly bring in new scooters to tap the incredible growth in the segment. The company wants to have a range of scooters as soon as possible and that’s why it has expedited the launch of these new scooters ahead of its new motorcycles. The launch of the Duet scooter has been planned in the second quarter of this calendar year, said a source to ET.
