Hero MotoCorp has unveiled the production version of a brand new 110cc motorcycle, christened the Splendor iSmart 110. While this motorcycle might share its name with the regular Splendor, Hero claims that the Splendor iSmart 110 has been built from ground up as a new model.
What’s new?
In an attempt to visually differentiate it from the current Splendor, Hero MotoCorp has taken a new approach towards styling. While the design continues to be conservative, it gets a few elegant touches like a sculpted fuel tank, raked headlamp and a rich dual tone paint job. Powering the Splendor iSmart 110 is a 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which is rated at 9bhp and 9Nm of torque. The BSIV compliant engine produces nine per cent more power and 12 per cent more torque than the 100cc unit. Despite the increase in power, Hero claims that the Splendor iSmart 110 is six per cent more frugal than the standard Splendor, which should make it the most fuel-efficient motorcycle in India. This engine also comes equipped with modern technology like torque on demand (TOD) and idle start and stop system (i3S).
India relevance?
The Splendor iSmart 110 will be a part of one of most competitive segments in the country, where it will rival with the likes of the Honda Livo, TVS Star City Plus and the Suzuki Hayate. As it is based on a new platform, the Splendor iSmart 110 is a very important product for Hero MotoCorp. We can safely expect Hero to eventually replace its current line-up of Honda engineered models with models based on this new platform.
Launch plans?
Unlike the other concepts showcased by Hero MotoCorp, the Splendor iSmart 110 looks ready to hit the showrooms. For some reason though, the company has decided against launching the motorcycle right away. The Splendor iSmart 110 will be launched in India in the second half of this year.
