The Hero Xoom 160 was recently unveiled in India at the Hero World 2024. Back then the company hadn’t revealed the full specifications of the scooter. However, today at the Bharat Mobility Expo, we’ve finally got access to more details.
Tbe Xoom 160 is powered by a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 14bhp at 8,000rpm and 13.7Nm at 6,500rpm. While Hero says that these specifications are of the “near production ready model” there shouldn't be a big difference between these figures and those of the production scooter.
The power and torque figures of the Xoom 160 on display are marginally lower than competitors like the Yamaha Aerox 155. For reference, the Yamaha’s engine produces 15bhp and 13.9Nm at the same rpms as the Hero’s mill.
The Aerox is also lighter at 126kg in comparison to the Xoom 160’s 141kg kerb weight. Let’s not forget that the Xoom is a larger scooter than the Aerox which explains the higher kerb weight. Ideally, the Yamaha Nmax 155 is the Xoom’s direct competition and it is expected to go on sale in India.
Besides the specifications, we’ve got a glimpse of the feature list of the Xoom 160. It has keyless ignition with remote opening for the boot, and a digital display that may feature Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.
Coming to the design, the Xoom 160 looks quite like European maxi-scooters and it is certainly attractive with its sharp front apron, split LED headlights and compact tail. By virtue of its design, there’s no flat floorboard as the fuel tank sits under the central spine of the scooter. That should translate to a large boot and we shall wait to discover if that’s the case when we ride the scooter later this year.
Speaking of, we expect the Hero Xoom 160 to go on sale within the next six months. The price should hover around the Rs. 1.3 lakh mark which’ll undercut other maxi scooters in the segment, which are the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160.
