- Hero’s first ADV scooter
- Launch expected in a few weeks
- Powered by a 156cc, liquid-cooled engine
Hero MotoCorp has been developing the Xoom 160 for some time now. Plus, following the unveiling of the ADV scooter at the Bharat Mobility Expo recently, there’s word that the scooter will go on sale in a few weeks.
The Hero Xoom 160 is a rather important scooter for the Indian manufacturer as it marks Hero’s entry into the premium scooter market. At present, the Yamaha Aerox dominates this space and is the only scooter in the sub-200cc segment with a liquid-cooled engine. Hero will be hoping to take the fight to the Japanese with the Xoom 160 and on paper, its scooter does look promising.
One of the bits about the scooter that stands out is the ADV-esque design. This is apparent in the styling of the front apron that houses split LED headlights and a tall windscreen. The side profile is like a quintessential maxi-scooter, with long body panels, central spine, and a sleek tail section. It certainly looks good but we shall reserve our comments about the quality, fit and finish when we ride the production-spec scooter.
Coming to the engine specifications, the scooter is expected to be powered by a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 14bhp at 8,000rpm and 13.7Nm at 6,500rpm. These specifications are of the pre-production scooter, however, we don’t expect to see a huge difference between these and the figures of the production scooter.
We expect the Hero Xoom to be priced at around Rs.1.3 lakh, ex-showroom. Once launched, it will go up against the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160.
