Earlier this year, Hero MotoCorp launched the Xoom as its latest 110cc scooter offering. It has a handful of rivals in the segment, and the Activa 6G is one of them, as it has been a household name over the years. In this story, we’ve compared the two 110cc scooters on paper to see the areas in which they compete against each other.
Design
The Hero Xoom gets a youthful design compared to the Activa 6G. It gets a futuristic fascia housing the LED headlight with an LED DRL. Even the side panels on the Xoom get cuts and creases that make it look aggressive and sporty. On the other hand, the Activa 6G has carried the same design over the years. It’s a rather conservative and family-friendly bodywork featuring simple styling with minimum lines. That said, both scooters feature a single piece seat which looks fairly spacious.
Features
Apart from the LED headlight, Hero has equipped the Xoom with positioning lights mounted on the front side fairing. Moreover, the scooter also features an LCD with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB charging port. Smartphone connectivity gives you access to SMS and call alerts. On the other hand, the Honda Activa 6G gets an LED headlight, an engine start-stop, a silent starter, a dual-function key to access the seat, and a fuel lid. However, the Activa H-Smart also gets features like keyless operation.
Engine
As mentioned before, both the scooters get a 110cc single-cylinder engine. But the Xoom makes 8.05bhp and 8.70Nm, while the Activa 6G produces 7.6bhp and 8.8Nm. The Hero offering creates slightly more power, whereas the latter makes marginally more torque. Both engines get a CVT gearbox.
Hardware
Hero has equipped the Xoom with telescopic front forks and a single rear shock, while the Honda Activa also gets telescopic front forks but a step-adjustable rear shock. Hero offers the Xoom with either a 190mm disc or a 130mm drum at the front along with a 130mm rear drum. Meanwhile, the Activa 6G gets drum units at both ends. The Xoom rides on a 90/90-12 front and rear setup but is also available with a 100/80-12 rear setup for its VX and ZX trims. The Activa, on the flipside, gets a 90/90-12 at the front and 90/100-10 at the rear. The wider rear tyre for the Xoom helps it with more surface contact overall. Meanwhile, the shorter rear wheel for the Activa aids in its handling.
Price
The asking price for the Hero Xoom starts at Rs. 72,349 for the base variant and goes up to Rs. 80,499 (both prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai). On the other hand, the Honda Activa 6G retails between Rs. 76,466 to Rs. 82,467 (both prices are ex-showroom Mumbai). Thus, the Xoom costs slightly less and offers more on paper.
