Hero MotoCorp recently launched the Xoom scooter as its latest 110cc offering. Compared to its siblings, Xoom takes a rather sporty approach and is more youth-oriented. And in the 110cc segment, it rivals the Honda Dio among other names. So, we’ve compared the two scooters on paper in this story, and here’s the result.
Design
Both scooters get a sharp design with an aggressive front end. The Xoom features an LED headlight with an LED DRL integrated into the front apron with the turn indicators housed in the handlebar cowl. Hero has also equipped the Xoom with cornering lights at the front which turn on based on the lean angle. On the other hand, the Honda Dio has carried over the same design for a few years now as it gets the same fascia and youthful bodywork. The Honda Dio’s rear side profile looks a little neater than the Xoom’s.
Engine
The Hero Xoom is powered by a 110.9cc BS6 engine developing 8.05 bhp and 8.7 Nm. It’s mated to a CVT gearbox and offers a reasonably spirited performance. The overall feedback from Xoom’s engine is refined with a little buzz. We recently rode it during the official launch and here’s what we think. Meanwhile, the Honda Dio draws power from a 109.51cc single-cylinder motor dishing out 7.65 bhp and 9 Nm. It’s a quite peppy engine with a frugal performance and a hint of sportiness.
Features
Over the last couple of years, Hero has been updating its commuter bikes with new features in the XTec trim. However, the Xoom seems to pack all those in its current trim itself. Along with LED illumination, and cornering lights it also gets an LCD with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. However, the aforementioned tech is exclusive ZX model while the LX makes do with an analog unit. It also packs a USB charger tucked neatly to avoid water seeping in. As for the Honda Dio, the features list is quite minimal and ACG silent start, LED headlight, and a fully digital console sans connectivity.
Hardware
Both scooters ride on conventional telescopic front forks and a single rear shock. But the Dio is equipped with drum brakes at both ends and the Xoom gets a front disc and rear drum unit. The Honda Dio also misses on alloys while the Xoom is offered with 12-inch units wrapped in a 90/90 front and 90/80 rear tyre. The Honda Dio gets a 5.3-litre fuel tank as compared to the Xoom’s 5.2-litre unit.
Price
Asking price for the Hero Xoom is set to Rs 68,599 for the LX model while the VX and ZX cost Rs Rs 71,799 and Rs 76,699, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). The Honda Dio is priced at Rs 68,624 for the base model and Rs 72,626 for the DLX trim(both ex-showroom Delhi).
