Hero MotoCorp has listed its new Xtreme series motorcycle, the Xtreme 160R as 'coming soon'. While the launch details are yet to be announced, we tell you what to expect from the new Hero Xtreme 160R.
Styling
The streetfighter styling brings muscular looks to the Xtreme 160R. The design is complemented by a stylish dual-tone finish, step-up seat, stubby exhaust and the thin spoked wheels. The modern design of the headlight further enhances the visuals. The ride-related information is available on a fully-digital instrument cluster although, unlike the Xtreme 200S, the lower displacement model misses out on Bluetooth-connectivity function. The bike will be available in three colour options – red, white and blue.
Features and hardware
The Hero Xtreme 160R comes equipped with premium features such as full-LED lighting (headlight, turn indicators and the taillight). Hardware specifications include petal-type disc brakes on both wheels to perform the anchoring duties. Hero MotoCorp will also offer a budget-version that will feature a rear drum brake. The safety net on both variants include a single-channel ABS. Shock absorption tasks are handled by 37mm front telescopic forks and a seven-step adjustable rear mono-shock. The rear disc brake version will tip the weighing scale at 139.5kg while the drum brake variant will be a kilogram lighter (138.5kg).
Engine
The Xtreme 160R draws power from a BS6-compliant 163cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-valve engine. In comparison, its rivals such as the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 use a four-valve setup. Paired to a five-speed gearbox, the engine on the Hero Xtreme 160R is tuned to deliver 15bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 14Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Hero MotoCorp claims a 0-60kmph acceleration time of 4.7 seconds.
Competition and expected price
The new Hero Xtreme 160R will rival the likes of Suzuki Gixxer (155), TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Apache RTR 180, Yamaha FZ V3 and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160. We expect Hero MotoCorp to deliver the product at an aggressive price tag. The base version (rear disc) should arrive close to Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) mark.
