Hero Xtreme 160R: Top 5 highlights

Hero MotoCorp has finally launched its much anticipated sporty commuter, the Xtreme 160R, in India. The motorcycle was unveiled in February this year and it is essentially the successor to the Xtreme Sports, which was discontinued a few months back. Now that the bookings for the bike have commenced, we list down its top five highlights for the prospective customers.

Hero Xtreme 160R Fuel Tank

Design

The Xtreme 160R boasts of a styling never seen before on a Hero offering as it is based on the Xtreme 1R concept which was showcased at the EICMA 2019. Starting from the geometrically-designed headlamp, muscular fuel tank section to the stubby rear with a smoked tail lamp, everything about the Xtreme’s design truly stands out.

Features

While most of the bikes in this segment get LED headlamp and tail lamp, the Xtreme 160R is one step ahead with even the turn indicators being LED. Other segment-first features include a hazard switch and a side-stand engine cut-off switch. The instrumentation setup comprises of an inverted LCD console which shows all the necessary information.

Hero Xtreme 160R Engine Bay

Engine

Powering the Xtreme is a BS6-compliant, 160cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine which churns out 15bhp at 8,500rpm and 14Nm at 6,500rpm. While these figures are on par with most other bikes in this department, the Xtreme’s low kerb weight of 138.5kg aids in an impressive power-to-weight ratio. The zero to 60kmph sprint is achieved in 4.7 seconds which, Hero says, is class leading.

Cycle parts

The motorcycle is underpinned by a diamond frame which is suspended by 37mm telescopic forks up front and seven-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by a disc-drum setup in the standard variant while there’s also higher-spec model with petal discs at both ends. The former gets single-channel ABS and the latter incorporates the safety aid on both wheels.

While the front disc model costs Rs 99,950, the dual disc version is pegged at Rs 1,03,500 (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). It locks horns with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ V3 and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160.
