Having establishing its supremacy in entry-level and executive commuter motorcycle segment, Hero MotoCorp has now turned its focus towards a more premium end of two-wheelers. The company marked its re-entry in the premium commuter segment earlier this week, with the unveiling of the new Xtreme 200R. Here is a photo gallery of the new Hero Xtreme 200R –
The Xtreme 200R is the production version of the Xtreme 200S concept shown at the 2016 Auto Expo, and has retained most of its aggressive styling cues.
While the previous Xtreme models have been conservatively styled, the chunky body parts and loud paint schemes and decals give the Xtreme 200R a modern appeal.
The edgy headlamp uses a halogen bulb, although there is a pair of LED DRLs on top. The tail lamp also gets LED units.
The elongated single-piece seat and the upright riding position hint that the Xtreme 200R is more of a commuter than a sporty motorcycle.
Keeping up with the times, the instrument cluster gets a digital display which shows speed, fuel level, clock, an odometer and trip meters.
The 200cc air-cooled carburetted single-cylinder engine is based on the Achiever’s powertrain. It is mated to a five-speed transmission.
The output is a modest 18.1bhp and 17.1Nm of torque. While it might not boast of impressive power output, it should have an edge in terms of fuel economy.
The Xtreme 200R is the first independently developed Hero motorcycle to feature a rear monoshock. The preload on this monoshock can be adjusted in eight levels.
The Nissin brake setup consists of a 276mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear. A single-channel ABS is offered as an optional extra.
The Xtreme 200R rides on 17-inch wheels with tubeless tyres. The rear tyre is a radial, which is another first for Hero.
