The Xtreme 200R will mark Hero MotoCorp’s re-entry in the premium market space when it goes on sale in the next few weeks. Expected to be priced below Rs 90,000, the Xtreme 200R will attempt to draw customers looking at premium 160cc commuter bikes. The design language of the Xtreme 200R is more of an evolution of the one in the Xtreme Sports. The conservative styling should work well with the target audience.
The front gets an edgy headlamp with twin LED position lamps on the either side and a black visor shielding the instrument console.
The sculpted fuel tank and extensions, the tank pads and the loud decals on the side add a trendy look to the bike.
The instrument console consists of an analogue tachometer paired with a digital display which integrates a speedo, fuel gauge, odo and dual trip meters, and a clock.
The raised handlebar and the slightly rear-set footpegs give the bike and upright seating position. The seat is firm and comfortable.
At the heart of the Xtreme 200R is a 199cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which is based on the Achiever’s powertrain.
This engine gets a balancer shaft to cut down on vibrations. It delivers 18.2bhp and 17.1Nm of torque, and is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The Xtreme 200R is just the second Hero motorcycle after Impulse to feature a rear monoshock. The preload on this monoshock can be adjusted in eight levels.
The brake setup consists of a 276mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear with Nissin callipers. A single-channel ABS is offered as standard.
The Xtreme 200R rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with an MRF Nylogrip tyre at the front and a Revz-S radial tyre at the rear.
