Hero MotoCorp recently launched the Xtreme 200S 4V in India. Like the other bikes in Hero’s stable, the Xtreme 200S too got a new 4-valve setup for its motor and other smaller tweaks. It rivals the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 in the 200cc segment. Here’s how the two bikes compare on paper.
Design
Even with its update, the Xtreme 200S 4V has retained most of its design cues from the 2-valve model. So, you see the same single-piece LED headlight, the same wide fascia as before, and the overall bodywork too. However, a slight refresh would have been a welcome addition. On the other side, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 has carried over its design for a few years now. It gets twin projector headlights at the front integrated into the sharp front end. The RS 200’s side panels too get cuts and creases that contribute to its youthful styling.
Features
Both bikes get an LED headlight but the RS200 also comes with LED turn indicators. The Xtreme 200S 4V is a step ahead, thanks to the fully digital console and smartphone connectivity. The Bluetooth compatibility gives you access to SMS/calls and other notifications. The RS 200 gets a basic setup comprising a semi-digital console sans smartphone connectivity.
Engine
Hero has powered the Xtreme 200S 4V with a 199.6cc, four-valve, air/oil-cooled mill that dishes out 18.9bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 17.35Nm at 6,500rpm. The RS 200 gets a 199.5cc single-cylinder motor that produces 24.1bhp and a torque of 18.7Nm. The Xtreme gets a five-speed gearbox whereas the RS comes with a six-speed unit. As seen here, the RS makes notably more power and slightly more torque as well.
Hardware
Both bikes ride on a conventional telescopic front forks and a monoshock. And their braking hardware comprises a single disc at both ends with dual-channel ABS. The Xtreme 200S rides on 17-inch alloys and so does the Bajaj Pulsar RS200. Even the tyre size for the two bikes is the same – 100/8- front and 130/70 rear.
Price
Hero has priced the new Xtreme 200S 4V at Rs. 1,41,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 costs Rs. 1,72,358 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Overall, the Pulsar comes at a notably higher cost with slightly better power figures. So, it’s the Xtreme 200S 4V that seems a better buy on the paper.
