Hero MotoCorp has launched the BS6-compliant model of the only fully-faired offering in its portfolio, the Xtreme 200S. In case you’re planning to get home the motorcycle this Diwali (or anytime soon), here are five things you should know about it.
Price hike
Hero has pegged the new Xtreme 200S at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom) which means it demands a premium of around Rs 13,000 over its BS4 counterpart. Despite the price hike, it’s still one of the most affordable 200cc bikes on sale in India. To give you a perspective, one of its closest rivals, the Suzuki Gixxer SF, costs as much as Rs 1.25 lakh even with a smaller 155cc engine.
Cleaner oil-cooled engine
While the displacement of its powerplant has remained unchanged at 199.6cc, the previous air-cooled setup has been replaced by an oil-cooler. This is executed besides the mandatory addition of a larger catalytic converter. These tweaks have brought along a change in power figures which stand at 17.8bhp and 16.4Nm now, as opposed to the previous 18.1bhp and 17.1Nm.
New colour option
Hero has introduced a new Pearl Fadeless White colour option for the bike, besides the already-available Panther Black and Sports Red paint schemes. The overall styling of the motorcycle has stayed untouched. The Xtreme 200S sports a sleek LED headlamp, angular fairing blending with a chiseled fuel tank and a chunky tail holding a single-piece seat.
Weight increment
Owing to the BS6-bound revisions in its engine, the Xtreme has gained a substantial 5.5kg over the BS4 model and tips the scales at 154.5kg (kerb) now. This might affect its real world performance but we can confirm that only after riding the motorcycle.
Unchanged hardware
The hardware package of the Xtreme 200S BS6 has been retained as it was. It is based on a diamond type frame which is suspended by telescopic forks and a seven-step preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking is handled a 276mm disc up front and a 220mm rotor at the rear, assisted by single-channel ABS.
