Hero Motocorp recently launched the Xtreme 200S in India. The fully-faired motorcycle is based on the underpinnings of its street naked sibling, the Xtreme 200R. What are the differences and similarities between the two? We find out in this comparison between the Xtreme 200S and Xtreme 200R.
Styling
The Xtreme 200R is a street naked and gets a styling that dictates most bikes in that segment. It gets sharp lines through-out its aggressively-styled bodywork. The Xtreme 200R also sports a muscular fuel tank and tank shrouds along with a beefy rear section.
Speaking of which, the rear section of the Xtreme 200S is similar to that of the Xtreme 200R. However, the most noticeable change is the full-fairing and comparatively stubby exhaust canister. Most of the dimensions are similar to the Xtreme 200R, however with a kerb weight of 149kg, the Xtreme 200S is around a kilogram heavier than the former.
Features
In terms of features, the Xtreme 200S has much more features as compared to the Xtreme 200R. It gets a full-LED headlamp with LED pilot lamps while the Xtreme 200R makes do with LED DRLs and a conventional headlamp. However, both bikes get an LED tail lamp.
The Xtreme 200R sports a semi-digital instrument cluster that displays an analogue tachometer and information like speed, odometer, fuel-gauge, trip meter and clock on the digital unit. The Xtreme 200S, on the other hand, gets a full-digital instrument cluster which apart from basic information also shows two trip computers, service due indicator, distance travelled, average speed and the time taken. Furthermore, the unit can also be paired to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
Engine
A 199cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor powers the Xtreme 200S as well as the Xtreme 200R. The two-valve, carbureted engine generates 18.1bhp of power and 17.1Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed transmission.
Mechanicals
The Xtreme 200S and Xtreme 200R ride on alloy wheels with MRF tyres. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks for the front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking hardware on both bikes consist of a 276mm front disc and 220mm rear disc with a single-channel ABS.
Pricing
The Xtreme 200R is priced at Rs 90,900. On the other hand, with the full-fairing, LED illumination and upgraded instrument console, the Xtreme 200S costs Rs 98,500; Rs 7,600 lesser than its street naked sibling. (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)
