- Activa brand was first introduced in 2001
- Achieved the 1 crore sales milestone in 2015
- Next 2 crore sales took just eight years
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced that its highest-selling product, the Activa, has crossed the 3 crore unit sales milestone.
This scooter was first introduced in 2001, and it crossed the 10 lakh unit sales mark two years later in 2003. Then, the 1 crore sales milestone was achieved in 2015, while the next 2 crore sales happened in just eight years, in 2023. Notably, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has dropped the 6G suffix from the brand name, and this product is now listed as the Activa on the company’s website.
The Activa brand is currently sold in two displacement options – 110cc and 125cc. The 110cc dominates the sales for the Indian arm of the Japanese manufacturer’s portfolio. Meanwhile, the company has announced plans to expand into the electric two-wheeler segment of our market.
In fact, it has already released a detailed plan that involves introducing two new products in the electric two-wheeler segment in FY2023-24. These new electric scooters will be based on Honda’s newly developed Platform ‘E’. While their finer details are scarce, one of these products could be the electric version of the Activa.
Honda stated that one of these two electric vehicles will be a mid-range, fixed battery product, while the other will boast swappable battery functionality. The full specifications will be available closer to the vehicle’s launch. Honda’s upcoming electric two-wheelers will be locally produced at its Narsapura plant in Karnataka. The Japanese brand aims to surpass the one million EV production milestone by 2030.
