Honda 2Wheelers India has registered a decline in year-on-year sales in the month of January 2023. The company sold a total of 2,96,363 units during the recently concluded month as against 3,54,209 units in the corresponding month of the last year. Domestic sales declined from 3,15,196 units in January 2022 to 2,78,143 units in January this year. Meanwhile, the exports fell from 39,013 units in January last year to 18,220 units in January 2023.
Speaking about the product strategy and its sales performance in India, Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President and CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said that the company has launched its first OBD2 model much ahead of the government’s deadline. Ogata further added that the Indian arm of the Japanese manufacturer will soon be upgrading its other products to meet the latest norms.
Elaborating his thoughts on the Budget 2023, Ogata further added that the budget sheds light on the enhanced focus on vehicle scrapping, green mobility, and net-zero carbon emission goals which outlines the future of mobility in the country, giving a roadmap to boost the Indian auto sector.
In more updates, Honda 2Wheelers India is planning to launch its first electric scooter, the Activa electric, by early next year. Activa electric will be co-developed in India and Japan. However, the company will manufacture the vehicle in India to keep the costs low and prices competitive.
