Honda is scheduled to launch the Activa 125 Fi in India on 11 September. It is Honda’s answer to the upcoming BSVI norms as well as the Hero Maestro Edge 125 which comes with fuel-injection. We find out how the two scooters stack up against each other in terms of specifications.
Engine
The main highlight of the Honda Activa 125 Fi and the Hero Maestro Edge 125 is the BSVI- compliant engine that comes with fuel-injection. The Maestro Edge 125 gets a 124cc engine that churns out 9.1bhp and 10.2Nm. Meanwhile, the Honda Activa 125 Fi’s 124cc motor is likely to produce 8.1bhp of power and around 10.5Nm of torque. Hero is offering the Maestro Edge 125 in a carburetted version and Honda is also expected to offer the same with the new Activa 125.
Features
Honda revealed the features of the new Activa 125 when it first showcased the scooter back in June. It comes with a couple of first-in-class features like the Honda ACG Starter, which reduces noises when cranking up the engine. The scooter also comes with a side stand engine inhibitor that prevents the engine from starting if the side stand is down. Honda has also equipped with full-LED lighting for the headlamp and tail lamp.
On the other hand, the Maestro Edge comes with an LED tail lamp and LED DRLs but misses out on a full-LED headlamp. Both scooters come with semi-digital instrument clusters. While the Maestro’s unit shows service due indicator, the Activa’s cluster also displays real-time fuel-efficiency, range, mileage and a malfunction lamp. Nevertheless, both scooters get an external fuel-filler cap at the rear end and sport an idle start-stop system that helps in conserving fuel.
Cycle Parts
There isn’t much difference between the two scooters in this department. The scooters ride on telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking duties are handled by 190mm discs up front with a drum brake at the rear along with a CBS (Combined Braking System). While the Maestro Edge 125 is already available in a drum brake variant and Honda is also expected to offer the Activa 125 with a similar setup.
