It might not be the pioneer of the segment, but the Honda Activa has certainly played the most significant role in shaping the scooter segment in India. The Activa 5G has trumped the Hero Splendor, another iconic brand in the auto industry, to become the most highest-selling two-wheeler in the country. We recently rode it to decode what makes it so popular. Here is a photo gallery of the Honda Activa 5G from the ride –
There have only been a few subtle evolutions to the Activa’s styling over the past decade. It sports a very conservative and elegant design which appeals to a wide range of audience.
One of the highlights on the new Activa 5G is the new LED headlamp and position lamp. The apron also gets chrome strips with pseudo air vents.
The analogue speedometer is now paired with a digital display which shows the odometer and trip meter readings, fuel level, clock and a service reminder.
The seat is wide and comfortable. There is abundant space on the floorboard along with two storage hooks to improve its practicality.
The fuel filler cap is located below the seat. You can fit an optional USB charger in the underseat storage.
The Activa 5G also gets the new four-in-one ignition key, first seen in the Grazia. It allows access to the underseat compartment with the flick of a switch.
At the heart of the Activa 5G is a 109cc single-cylinder engine delivering 8bhp and 9Nm of torque. It is mated to a CVT transmission.
It continues to ride on an archaic trailing-link front suspension setup and a rear monoshock. Brake setup consists of drum brakes at both ends with CBS offered as standard.
Prices for the Activa 5G start at Rs 53,565 (ex-showroom). It is available in eight paint schemes, five of which come in a metallic finish.
