Honda has launched the new Activa 6G which is the next-generation model of its highest selling two-wheeler in India. It is priced at Rs 63,912 (standard) and Rs 65,412 (premium) which is a premium of around Rs 8,000 over the 5G model. To justify that premium, it gets a host of updates and we check out the top five of them.
Subtle design changes
Honda has retained the overall design of the Activa but with subtle changes which keep it fresh. The headlamp and tail lamp has been restyled to look sleeker now while the design of the mirror is also new. Moreover, the under seat panel gets more contours while the chrome garnishing on the front apron adds a bit of bling to the overall styling.
New BS6 engine
The most important change comes in the form of a new BS6-compliant, fuel-injected powerplant. It churns out 7.7bhp of power and 8.79Nm of torque which is a slight drop as compared to its BS4 counterpart. However, Honda claims the updated motor delivers 10 per cent better fuel efficiency and runs smoother now.
Added features
The new Activa 6G gets a bunch of new features such as Honda’s ACG silent starter motor, engine start-stop switch, double lid fuel filler cap, integrated pass switch and an increased under seat storage area of 18 litres. Furthermore, the higher-spec premium variant also gets DC LED headlamp for better illumination.
Tweaked dimensions
In order to make the Activa more accommodating, the Japanese bike maker has increased the seat length and floorboard area of the scooter. Additionally, the wheelbase has also witnessed a minor hike for better stability while the ground clearance is also higher to take on rough roads more efficiently.
Revised hardware
After doing away with the trailing link suspension setup for years, the Activa has finally received telescopic fork up front, similar to its rivals. Meanwhile, the rear monoshock has remained unchanged. Also, the scooter now sports a larger 12-inch wheel at the front, as opposed to the 10-inch unit on its predecessor. Meanwhile, the rear continues to ride on a 10-inch wheel. Braking on the Activa is handled by a drum brake at both ends, assisted by combined braking system.
