The Honda Activa 6G and the TVS Jupiter represent the purest breeds of family scooters. Both of them are high on practicality and convenience which makes them ideal daily drivers. Now, both of them are BS6 compliant and have witnessed more changes than just in the engine. If you’re planning to buy either of these, we help you find out which one is better in terms of specifications, features and pricing.
Design and Features
In terms of design, the Activa and Jupiter both sport a conventional and undramatic styling. While the Jupiter stayed the same during the BS6 transition, the Activa received subtle changes with sharper contours across the bodywork and more chrome on the front apron. However, both variants (standard and deluxe) of the Activa are available in the same set of six colour options.
On the other hand, the standard, ZX and Classic trims of the Jupiter each come in different paint schemes. The ZX and Classic versions also get contrast coloured panels around the footboard. Interestingly, the Classic edition is further appealing with a tinted visor, chrome-finished mirrors, cushioned grab handles, dual-tone seat and a mobile charger along with a cubby hole below the handlebar.
Coming to the features, both of them are equipped with an external fuel filler cap. The instrumentation on the Activa is a basic fully-analogue unit while the Jupiter offers a semi-digital console but only in the ZX trim. Where the Jupiter also leads is on the illumination front as it gets LED headlamp across all variants. Meanwhile, Honda offers LED headlamp only in the deluxe model of the Activa. Also, the Jupiter has a 21-litre under seat storage capacity which is slightly more than the Activa. On the flipside, the latter gets an ACG silent starter and an engine kill switch which the former misses out on.
Engine
Both the scooters are powered by a 109cc, fuel-injected motor mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Now, a mild difference lies in their power figures as the Activa produces 7.6bhp and 8.79Nm while the Jupiter makes 7.3bhp and 8.4Nm. The Activa, despite bearing a lot of metal body panels, weighs 2kgs lesser than the Jupiter at 107kgs. What’s more, the Activa’s motor is also slightly more refined and smoother than the Jupiter’s.
Cycle Parts
The Activa and the Jupiter are based on a similar underbone chassis and ride on a 12-inch wheel at the front. At the rear, while the Activa gets a 10-inch wheel, the Jupiter incorporates a 12-inch unit which aids in better stability and handling. After Honda updating the front suspension of the Activa recently, the damping setup of both scooters is the same with telescopic forks and a three-step adjustable monoshock. Braking hardware also remains common with drum brakes at both ends along with combined braking setup. Disc is not available even as an option on either offerings.
Pricing
Both these scooters have their own positives and negatives. However, the starting price of the Jupiter BS6 is Rs 2,000 lesser than that of the Activa. TVS has priced the standard and ZX trims of the Jupiter BS6 at Rs 63,230 and Rs 65,230, respectively. Meanwhile, the fancier and more feature-packed Classic edition will set you back by Rs 70,341. As for the Honda Activa 6G, its standard and deluxe variants cost Rs 65,382 and Rs 66,882 (all prices are ex-showroom, Pune).
