-Activa Electric will launch early next year
-Gets performance like Activa 110
-Will get fixed battery tech
Honda will launch its most awaited electric two-wheeler, the Activa Electric, in the next four to five months. This electric scooter, developed in Japan, will be launched in a few other Asian markets, including India.
According to a report published by Honda on its official website, the company has developed an electric scooter platform that will leverage the existing ICE range of products. This has been done for better turnaround time and keeping costs in check.
As of now, there aren’t many details on the Activa Electric but the company did say that its performance will be equivalent to its 110cc ICE sibling. So it is clear that the Japanese brand is looking for a mass-market electric scooter and not really playing in the premium game. In fact, the same report did mention that his EV will also have in-vehicle infotainment.
Currently, in the ICE space, the Activa 110 is the highest-selling scooter in the country. But in the EV segment, brands like Ola, TVS and Bajaj are leading the charts. It will be interesting to see how Honda plans to launch and operate its electric scooter in India. Because the country has already accepted products like the iQube and the Chetak. While we do understand that the brand recall and value of Activa are the highest in the segment, it will be interesting to see if Honda can replicate the same with its first-ever EV.
