In the two-wheeler market there are now only two names which dominate – Hero and Honda. The history between them is not something that is hidden. Well, so is their rivalry when it comes to products. The sales charts have painted quite a clear picture – Honda Activa takes the lead while Hero Splendor falls to second.
The Hero Spelendor as we know was not only the undisputed leader in terms of sales in India, it is the world’s highest selling motorcycle. The Activa on the other hand, has a growth percentage much higher than that of the Splendor. It was just a matter of time before the scooter took the lead.
The Honda Activa sold 2,33,935 units in April while the Hero Splendor sold 2,24,238 units during the same period. The lead is not significant but manages to keep Honda in the top spot. We feel 2016 will prove to be the most successful year for the Activa.
Hero has consistently seen growth in double digits. Every 30 seconds, someone in India buys Hero's top selling motorcycle – Splendor. But this financial year we saw a decline in the sales for this famous motorcycle.
Nonetheless, both these two wheelers have a huge lead over the motorcycle in third place – Hero HF Deluxe, which came in at 1,16,567 units. The HF Deluxe also gained with a marginal 4.37 per cent growth figure over last month.
