From back in 2014, Honda’s Activa was riding right on Hero’s tail who was leading with the Splendor in terms of sales. The Activa even passed the Splendor in July 2014. However, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data the Activa has taken the lead and kept the top spot for the last nine months.
The Hero Splendor as we know was not only the undisputed leader in terms of sales in India but also the world’s highest selling motorcycle. The Activa on the other hand, has a growth percentage much higher than that of the Splendor. It was just a matter of time before the scooter took the lead.
Back in July, we felt that the newly launched Hero Splendor iSmart 110 could help Hero take the Splendor brand to the top spot of the sales chart once again. And that the new Hero motorcycle could overthrow the Honda Activa which has been the undisputable leader since the past few months. Surprisingly it has not made a dent in the Activa's lead.
The Honda Activa sold 2,33,935 units in April 2016 while the Hero Splendor sold 2,24,238 units during the same period. Since then the lead has grown significantly. In September 2016, Honda sold 3,01,529 units of the Activa while, Hero sold 2,54,704 units of Splendor.
The country’s third highest seller which is the Hero HF Deluxe, sold 1,31,867 units which is less than half that of the Activa.
