- Honda likely to be working on the Africa Twin 250
- Could be a heavily revised version of the CRF250L Rally
The future looks interesting for the adventure motorcycle enthusiasts as the iconic Honda Africa Twin is speculated to be introduced in a smaller and more accessible 250cc avatar.
In essence, the Africa Twin 250 won’t be an all-new model but a heavily revised version of the Honda CRF250L Rally adventure bike which is sold in the international markets. The existing model of the CRF250 is due to be introduced as a Euro5-compliant model. And when it does in the coming months, Honda might make changes to its styling, hardware and features to make it in line with the larger Africa Twin 1100.
A rendering (shown on top) of the speculated Africa Twin 250 has also emerged on the internet. The bike looks very similar to the larger ADV, but finished in a much smaller package. Hence, there’s a compact dual-pod headlamp, tall windscreen, sleek knuckle guards, high-mounted exhaust and minimalistic yet edgy body panels.
Coming to the hardware, Honda might introduce two versions of the Africa Twin 250. One with road-biased components such as a 19-17-inch wheel combo with slick tyres and another adventure-oriented trim incorporating larger wheels with knobby tyres. The existing engine of the CRF250L is a 249cc, single-cylinder unit which makes 25bhp. Following the Euro5-bound revisions, it might witness a change in its character and performance.
Although the whole idea of the Honda Africa Twin 250 is still a rumour, it will make for an interesting proposition if it turns out to be true. The motorcycle will give Honda a piece of the lucrative pie of small-size adventure segment. The motorcycle will compete against the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure and the BMW G 310 GS.
