The Honda Africa Twin has been launched in India at Rs 12.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Dealers have started accepting bookings for the adventure touring motorcycle for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh, with just 50 units being available in the first lot.
The Honda Africa Twin CRF 1000L is an adventure motorcycle which borrows the iconic moniker from the original 1989 XRV750. The trademark Honda styling and dual LED headlamps pay homage to its predecessor. At the heart of the Africa Twin is a 998cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which develops 94bhp and 98Nm of torque. Globally, the Africa Twin gets the option of either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission. However for the Indian market, Honda has launched only the DCT model.
The Africa Twin rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels. The ABS gives you the option of retaining the full functionality of the system for the front wheel, while deactivating it for the rear one. This should allow the rider to have fun while maintaining a safety margin. The Honda selectable torque control (HSTC) system can be adjusted in three modes, to alter the power delivery according to the rider’s preference.
The Honda Africa Twin is the second locally assembled big bike from Honda after the CBR650F. This CKD operation has enabled Honda to launch the bike with an attractive price tag. It shares market space with the likes of the Triumph Tiger XCx, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Ducati Multistrada 950.
