Honda will end its 2015 innings on a high note with the launch of the CB Hornet 160R. The striking looking 160cc motorcycle, which will officially go on sale tomorrow, has garnered quite a bit of interest among budding motorcyclists. So much so that it already has a waiting period stretching from one and a half to two months at this moment.
While the dealers in major cities across the country are accepting bookings of the Hornet 160R for a token amount of Rs 5,000; the motorcycle itself will cost close to Rs 90,000 on-road for the STD variant. The CBS (combined braking system) equipped variant, on the other hand, is likely to cost around Rs 4,000 more than the standard variant.
The Hornet 160R is based on the CB Unicorn 160 though it carries a muscular appearance thanks to its beefy fuel tank and a sharper looking headlight assembly. The motorcycle also comes with a stylish set of alloy wheels, split grab rails and side cowl finished in silver.
Expectedly, the Hornet 160R will source the Unicorn 160's engine though possibly in a fruitier state of tune. The 162cc, single-cylinder engine currently makes 14.5bhp and 14.61Nm of torque in the Unicorn. The Hornet will also get the same 5-speed gearbox.
With an on-road price of close to Rs 90,000, the CB Hornet 160R will be positioned between the naked Unicorn 160 and the fully faired CBR 150R. Honda’s other commuter offering – the 150cc Trigger costs between Rs 79,000 and Rs 90,000. While the Unicorn and the Trigger are pegged as more of economical commuter motorcycles, the new CB Hornet 160R is Honda’s take on the growing premium commuter motorcycle space that currently includes the Yamaha FZ range and the Suzuki Gixxer.
