Honda launched the updated CB Hornet 160R in India recently. The bike goes head on against the Yamaha FZ S V2.0 and the Suzuki Gixxer in the premium commuter segment. How do the rivals stack up against each other? We find out-
Design
In terms of design, all three bikes get an aggressive streetfighter stance, muscular tanks with edgy tank shrouds. This design language is meant to appeal to the youth who want a commuter without compromising on aesthetics.
However, each bike has its own distinctive element. While the Yamaha FZ S V2.0 has its uniquely styled tail section, the Suzuki Gixxer has its beefy dual outlet exhaust and the CB Hornet 160R benefits from its full-LED headlamp.
Features
The Honda CB Hornet 160R is the only bike in this list that gets ABS as an option. Meanwhile, the instrument clusters on the bikes are an LCD unit that display speed, tachometer, odometer and fuel gauge. However, the Yamaha FZ S V2.0’s unit misses out on a clock which the Suzuki Gixxer and the CB Hornet display.
Cycle parts
Braking power on the CB Hornet comes from a 276mm front disc and a 130mm drum unit for the rear on the standard variant. The DLX version gets a 220mm rear disc. The Suzuki Gixxer uses a 266mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum unit. The manufacturer also offers a rear disc variant with a 220mm unit.
The standard version of the Yamaha FZ S V2.0 gets the smallest, 242mm front disc and 130mm rear drum unit. However, the bike is also offered in a rear disc variant which gets a 220mm disc at the rear and the largest 282mm disc for the front.
All three bikes ride on 17-inch wheels with a telescopic front suspension and a monoshock at the rear.
Engine
The CB Hornet 160R is powered by a 163cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 15.7bhp and 14.76Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox and is the most powerful of the lot thanks to its higher displacement.
The Gixxer uses a 155cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. This engine delivers 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque through a five-speed transmission.
The Yamaha FZ S V2.0 gets an air-cooled, 149cc single-cylinder engine which benefits from a fuel injection system. The engine produces 13bhp and 12.8Nm of torque which is also mated to a five-speed gearbox.
