- Issue with overheating oil cooler pipe
- Units sold from 2020-2021 affected
- No word about bikes sold in India
Honda has issued a recall for the CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade in the USA. The recall, which is due to a faulty oil cooler pipe affects 331 units sold from April 2020 to October 2021. That is 100 per cent of the bikes sold between that period.
Now, the oil cooler pipe in these units of the CBR1000RR-R SP overheat, melt and rupture causing oil to leak onto the exhaust pipe or even the rear tyre, posing a serious safety risk. The issue was reported in Japan first with other reports from Europe and America following through.
To address the fault, Honda plans to replace the oil cooler pipes on the affected units as well as fit them with a heat guard between the exhaust pipe and oil cooler pipe. Now, with just a handful of CBR1000RR-R sold in India, the manufacturer has not announced an official recall here yet. Nonetheless, we recommend visiting the nearest service centre and having your bike looked at for potential risk.
