The Honda CBR250RR has made its maiden public appearance, more than a year after the concept was first unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Featuring state of the art technology and a revolutionary new design, this CBR250R successor made its debut at an event in Indonesia.
The aesthetics of the Honda CBR250RR haven’t strayed far from that of Lightweight Sports Concept. It retains the sharp design with edgy split headlamps, aerodynamic bodywork and minimalistic tail section. The two into one into two exhaust system gets a distinctive design, while the rear wheel rides on a single unit swingarm similar to the one in the Yamaha R15. With a relatively low seat height of 790mm, the CBR250RR has been deigned keeping the Asian market in mind. It also gets an all-new fully digital instrument console.
As speculated, the Honda CBR250RR gets an all-new 249.7cc DOHC parallel twin engine, mated to a six-speed transmission. Though power figures haven’t been revealed yet, the engine runs a relatively high compression ratio of 11.5:1, and comes with a liquid cooling system. The CBR250RR rides on sophisticated inverted front forks and a Pro-Link five-step adjustable rear monoshock. ABS is offered as an optional extra. The engine gets ride-by-wire technology as well as rider modes.
Though prices haven’t been officially announced, a Honda official went on record saying that the ABS-specced version would retail at around IDR 70 million, which roughly translates to around Rs 3.59 lakh. This is significantly higher than the price of the older CBR250R, though we can see why. We can expect the CBR250RR to hit the production lines in India by the end of this year or by early 2017. It will compete with the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.
