Just last week Honda India had launched five facelift models for the Indian market. However, it chose not to launch the CBR650F that day but has announced its intention to officially launch the bike in July.
This announcement was made by Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO of the Indian arm. The company will be selling this motorcycle through the completely-knocked-down (CKD) route, with around five per cent localisation at the start. It plans to increase localisation over a period of time, which would bring down the cost. It was revealed that the CBR650F would come with a price tag of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which is slightly on the expensive side, considering the fact that there are other powerful bikes in the same price bracket.
The top honcho says that this motorcycle would be a part of the “Make in India” concept, initiated by the Prime Minister of India. However, we don’t understand that how can the bike be a part of this campaign, when 95 per cent of the components will be imported from other countries. Well that will be an interesting development if it happens.
