Honda CD 110 Dream BS6 vs Hero Splendor iSmart BS6: Competition Check

Honda recently launched the BS6 version of the CD 110 Dream commuter motorcycle in India. It goes up against the Hero Splendor iSmart which was the first motorcycle to be updated for BS6 compliance in the country. If you’re planning to buy one of these offerings for your daily commute, we help you make a wise decision by comparing them on paper.

Design and features

The styling of the CD 110 Dream and Splendor iSmart is simple and commuter-ish. However, while the former follows minimalism in terms of bodywork, the latter looks slightly fancier with a larger headlamp cowl, muscular fuel tank, long and sleek tail section and blacked-out components. Both bikes have received subtle design changes over their BS4 counterparts along with new decals.

The Splendor iSmart gets a semi-digital instrument cluster and Hero’s i3S technology which is helpful in saving fuel during brief stops. As for the CD 110 Dream, although it gets a dated fully-analogue console, it is equipped with other nifty bits such as an ACG silent starter, engine start/stop switch and an integrated headlamp beam and pass switch.

Honda CD 110 Dream Engine

Engine

The new CD 110 Dream BS6 is powered by a 109.51cc, air-cooled engine which churns out 8.6bhp at 7,500rpm and 9.30Nm at 5,500rpm. Meanwhile, the Splendor features a slightly larger 113.2cc motor which is also more powerful at 8.9bhp and 9.89Nm. However, the CD 110 has an advantage of lighter weight as it tips the scales at 109kg which is 7kgs lesser than the Splendor. Transmission duties are handled by a four-speed gearbox.

Cycle Parts

Both bikes are based on a single-cradle frame, ride on 18-inch alloy wheels which are suspended by telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. While the braking setup also remains common with drums at both ends, the Splendor iSmart comes with an option of disc brake at the front. The Splendor also incorporates a larger 9.5-litre fuel tank as against the CD 110’s 8-litre unit.

Pricing

The Honda CD 110 Dream BS6 is the slightly more affordable motorcycle here. It is available in standard and deluxe (both are cosmetically different) models which cost Rs 64,505 and Rs 65,505. The Hero Splendor iSmart BS6 also comes in two versions. The drum brake variant is pegged at Rs 65,700 while the disc brake model retails at Rs 67,900 (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
