Honda’s MotoGP spearhead and the reigning world champion Marc Marquez is back to his winning ways after a dull start to the 2015 season achieving the 700th FIM (Federation of International Motorcycling) World Championship victory for Honda in road racing. Honda registered their 699th win on Sunday at the Indianapolis Grand Prix when the 18-year-old 250cc Belgian rider Livio Loi bravely gambled with tyre choice to achieve his first victory.
Honda’s racing story began with the Isle of Man TT in 1959 and registered their first win at the Spanish GP in 1962. After a small hiatus, Honda returned to motorcycle racing in 1979 and resumed their winning ways after the inception of HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) in 1983. Honda has been known for its innovative engineering such as the 5-cylinder 125cc engine revving at 22,000rpm or the 6-cylinder 250/297cc engines or the monocoque frame four-stroke NR500 back in 1983.
Honda has seen iconic road racers like Freddie Spencer, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi race their steed to the top of the podiums. It was the legendary Valentino Rossi who marked Honda’s 500th win in 2001 while Honda’s mainstay Dani Pedrosa raced to the 600th victory in 2005.
