- Deliveries commenced during an event in Jaipur
- All 50 Goldwings have been sold out
- 2nd phase of bookings might begin by the end of 2018
Honda India has started the deliveries of the mother of all tourers, the 2018 Goldwing. The bike was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo which saw a fair number of bookings.
The Japanese manufacturer has allowed just 50 units of the Goldwing in the Indian market. In fact, the Honda Wing World dealers have stop accepting any bookings for this tourer as all the units have been sold out. While the Goldwing retails at Rs 26.8 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the Goldwing Tour is slightly more priced at Rs 28.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The company hasn’t revealed the exact numbers of each models allotted to India.
The new Goldwing is known for its 1833cc engine that churns out 124bhp and 169Nm of peak torque. This motor comes with two transmission options, six-speed manual and DCT gearbox. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via a shaft drive. Honda has equipped this grand tourer with a ride-by-wire throttle. To take care of various riding needs, the Goldwing is loaded with four riding modes, tour, sport, economy and rain. The selected mode will adjust the traction control settings, braking system and also the suspension damping. For city riding, there’s also the idling stop system which shuts the engine after three seconds of idling. The rider needs to twist the throttle to get the motor back in action. The DCT gearbox offers a ‘walking mode’ that allows the bike to crawl forward at 1.6kmph and 1kmph in reverse. The bike continues to get the reverse gear.
The Goldwing has a few rivals in India like the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, the Moto Guzzi MGX-21 and the Indian Roadmaster. Just like the Goldwing, all these bikes are imported to India through the completely-built-up(CBU) route.
