New patent drawings from Honda show that the company is still working on hydrogen fuel cell to power motorcycles. The drawings show the technology being used on an electric streetfighter.
This isn’t the first time Honda has filed patents for fuel cell-powered mototrcycles, although this one has a completely redesigned swingarm. The swingarm seems to have been strengthened to bear the load of electric motor, which will be mounted on to the hub of the rear wheel. As for the center portion, the entire space is taken up by a system which converts hydrogen into electricity.
The Japanese government has been pushing manufacturers to develop fuel cell technology, and plans to have 40,000 such vehicles on the road by 2020. The roadmap also includes plans to set up 160 filling stations for fuel cell-powered vehicles. And by the looks of it, Honda seems to be very close to getting one fuel cell-powered motorcycle on the road. We can expect a concept to be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show, later this year.
